DECANTER: "The colour has been gently turning to brick ever since 2001 as we head through the vertical, and here we have a soft brick red. A legendary vintage, of course, that keeps surprising by how well it is holding up. This is still full of the rich pleasures of a late summer evening, even if you know the sun will set soon, and it makes you want to enjoy every last drop. Aromatics of cold ash, gentle woodsmoke and soft spices. The fruit is very much now at its gentlest, with notes of wild strawberries, salted caramel and wild roses. Wonderful."

JAMES SUCKLING: "Wonderful with dark chocolate, mushrooms and black truffle character that turned to dried fruits such as light prunes. Full-bodied with amazing decadent fruit and a dense palate. Soft textured, long and delicious. So rich and gorgeous. Drink or hold."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "The best bottle of this I've ever tasted, the ripe, almost, port like fruits, with its earth, tobacco and cherry accents, elegant, polished textured and long, sweet, fruit filled, silky finish hit all the right spots."

WINE SPECTATOR: "A big and velvety red. Dark garnet color, with a black center and an amber edge. Cherry, dark chocolate and earth. Full-bodied and very velvety, with tobacco, chocolate and berry flavors. Good tannin structure.--1982 Bordeaux horizontal. Drink now."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: "Tasted at the Château Figeac vertical at the property. The 1982 Figeac appears to have dipped in form over the last few years and certainly here, compared directly against the 1989 and 1990, it does not quite offer the same fruit intensity or joie-de-vivre. It feels more diffuse on the nose, perhaps more herbaceous, a facet that I cannot remember on older bottles of 1982 that I tasted. The palate is medium-bodied, atypically austere for a 1982, but with impressive length. It is like a Saint Emilion that has forgotten how to have fun in some ways. It is better than the bottle encountered in 2013, yet given the choice, I would pick the 1990 over the 1982. Tasted June 2015."
