DECANTER: "Great sense of fruit purity on the nose, showing a mélange of black fruits. This shows brilliance on the palate, it’s very flavourful, with almost savoury undertones lingering on a very long finish. A sensation of gunflint shows retronasally. This is a rare combination: the height of elegance combined with depth."

JANCIS ROBINSON: "Rich, round and broad, again with a hint of the warmth of the vintage. Oak well integrated. Freshness, as always, and power, the finish firm, even a little dry."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: "The 2018 Saumur Champigny Le Bourg from Clos Rougeard has a dark, somber bouquet of licorice, iris, flowers and dark wild berries. Medium to full-bodied, tense and chiseled, it’s broad with delicate calcareous dry extract and a firm, tense and tight finish with firm tannins, unfortunately dominated by the presence of Brettanomyces."
