JAMES SUCKLING: "A round, juicy wine with blackberry, dried-tobacco, chocolate and stone character. Full and layered with chewy tannins and a finish with attractive fruit and wood complexity. Needs plenty of time to soften and come together. Try after 2025."

WEINWISSER: "100 % Merlot, 17 hl/ ha, Produktion 11.000 Flaschen. Was für ein schwarzbeeriges Konzentrat gepaart mit frisch geriebenem Kakaopulver und frischem Himbeermark, dahinter Brasiltabak, zarter Veilchenduft und dunkles Edelholz. Am komplexen Gaumen mit seidiger Textur, engmaschigem Tanninkorsett, balancierter Rasse, feinkörnigem Extrakt, ein perfekt modellierter Körper. Im gebündelten, nicht enden wollenden Finale, blaue und schwarze Beeren, tiefschürfende Terroirwürze und erhabene Adstringenz. Ein Wein mit gewaltigem Lagerpotenzial, kann noch zulegen."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "With a good depth of color, the fruit here is equally dark with its blend of black, dark red and blue fruits which are made even more interesting with their licorice, chocolate, wet earth and espresso tinted accents. Concentrated, full-bodied, deep and long, the wine is lusciously textured, opulent, vibrant and deep, finishing with a blast of chocolate covered black cherries that linger. Drink from 2024-2055."

FALSTAFF: "Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Nuancen von Zedernholz und Kardamom, schwarzes Waldbeerkofit, zart nach Lakritze und Cassis, tabakige Noten. Saftig, frische Kirschen, angenehmer, lebendiger Säurebogen, intendierte, tragende Tannine, feiner Nougattouch im Abgang, dunkle Mineralität, salzig im Nachhall, hat Energie und Länge, rotbeerige Nuancen im Rückgeschmack."

WINE SPECTATOR: "Emphasizes the ripe, richly textured fruit of the vintage but refines it just a little bit, with a welcoming fine-grained, supple structure underneath plum and cherry paste notes. Features a singed alder backdrop on the finish, with a nice tug of earth. Best from 2023 through 2035. 1,100 cases made."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: "The 2019 Péby Faugères bursts with aromas of vanilla pod, minty berry fruit, dark chocolate and creamy new wood. Full-bodied, polished and seamless, it's more refined than Le Merle (Péby Faugères is a 100% Merlot cuvée produced from the Faugères's best parcel), though with similar generously extracted tannins and livelier acids, concluding with a lavishly oak-inflected finish. It's a success in its genre, but Péby Faugères remains firmly stuck in the aesthetic of the early 2000s while the rest of the wine world moves on around it."
