Chateau Gazin 2017

JAMES SUCKLING: "Blueberry and plum aromas here with some flowers and hot stones, too. Complex. Medium body. Juicy fruit in the center palate. Soft, refined tannins and fresh acidity. Lovely complexity and focus. Drink in 2021."

WEINWISSER: "Purpurgranat mit rubinroten Reflexen. Konzentriertes blaubeeriges Bouquet mit Anklängen an dunkle Edelhölzer und Wildkirschen. Im zweiten Ansatz schwarze Oliven, ein Hauch Veilchen und Rosmarin. Am kräftigen Gaumen mit mächtigen, verlangenden Tanninen, maskuliner Körper mit guten Reserven ausgestattet. Im komplexen Finale mit Bleistiftmine und Graphit, endet mit zarter Adstringenz. Ein klassischer Gazin, der von seiner Fangemeinde Geduld verlangt, das sollte man hier beachten."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Expressive without out much effort, you can easily find the flowers, cherries and wet earth notes. Soft, glossy and fresh, there is sweetness to the fruit, silk on the tannins and a generous blast of cocoa dusted red fruits in the finish."

WINE ENTHUSIAST: "Juicy and fruity, this wine is hiding its richness at this stage. But it will be a concentrated wine boasting great fruitiness. Drink from 2024."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: "Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Gazin has a beautifully fragrant nose of potpourri, chocolate-covered cherries and spiced mulberries with a core of warm plums and cherry cordial plus a waft of wild blueberries. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a firm frame of ripe, rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and earthy."

LISA PERROTTI-BROWN: "The 2017 Gazin is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It sings of pretty redcurrant jelly and black raspberry scents, plus hints of wild sage, tree bark, and fertile loam. Medium-bodied, the palate is delicately styled and refreshing, with fine-grained tannins and an understated, earthy finish."

DECANTER: "Dark ruby in colour, with inky depths to this wine. This is a pretty classic Gazin, with a Left Bank dark fruit feel. They have done a good job of getting fruit definition and character, with spicy black pepper notes and firm tannins. This is another contender for a wine that you would not pick out as being a 2017, it has depth to the fruit and feels like it needs longer to settle into itself. Much improved over ageing. Drinking Window 2025 - 2040"

FALSTAFF: "Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung, reife Pflaumen, florale Nuancen, etwas Nougat, ein Hauch von Dörrfeigen. Saftig, elegant, frisch strukturiert, gut eingebundene Tannine, Kirschen und Nougat im Abgang, gastronomischer Stil."

JEB DUNNUCK: "A blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the deep ruby/purple-hued 2017 Chateau Gazin offers loads of savory red fruits as well as some meaty, underbrush, herbal, and floral notes, medium to full body, a ripe, textured mouthfeel and outstanding length. It's already drinking nicely yet should easily evolve for 10-15 years."
