Chateau Angelus 2007

WEINWISSER: "Sattes, dunkles Granat-Purpur. Geballtes, dichtes Bouquet, Kirschentöne, Kaffee und Black Currantnoten, zeigt sich tiefgründig. Im Gaumen florale Noten von würzig-tabakigem Cabernet Franc, stützt aber sehr gut, stark adstringiernd mit körnigen, verlangenden Tanninen, wirkt in dieser Phase ziemlich hart mit enormen Potential. Nun ist die Frage, ob er diese Kraft umsetzten wird oder seine Kanten behält? Erste Genussreife erst in 10 Jahren. (18/20). Tolle Johannisbeernoten, Schwarzee, Brotkruste, eleganter, aber für einen 2007er auch erstaunlich fülliger Gaumen. Legt noch zu. Man kann ihn trinken, aber ein paar Jährchen warten ist besser."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "Medium bodied, and fully mature, this represents the blend of Burgundy and Bordeaux, with a bit more Bordeaux than Burgundy, if such a thing were possible. More a wine of finesse, soft tannins, medium body and a complex blend of truffle, spice box plum and assorted red fruits. This is really drinking nicely today, and does not need further cellaring."

THE WINE ADVOCATE: "Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Angelus has a really quite wonderful bouquet with dark cherries, crushed strawberry, hints of orange blossom and cedar that contain much more energy than many of its peers. The palate is very crisp and nicely structured on the entry. The acidity is very well judged, and there is a sense of effortless charm in the silky smooth, lightly spiced finish. Everything here is just ticking along nicely. Excellent. Tasted February 2017."

JAMES SUCKLING: "This is a clean wine with a currant, berry and spicy character. Full body with soft tannins and a cherry, sweet tobacco and mineral undertone. Drink now."

JANCIS ROBINSON: "Subtle, layered, savoury nose. Very intense and concentrated with many nuances of ripe Merlot grapes. Firm finish and the promise of even more interest to come. Dry finish but lots of ripeness and ambition and not too much heat. Very sweet and intense."

WINE ENTHUSIAST: "There is good density here, a wine that seems well balanced and integrated. It has a solid, firm kernel, but this is balanced with great fresh acidity as well as blackberry fruits. The wine still seems to be coming together after bottling, and certainly needs 4–5 years."
