THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "The best showing ever for this vintage. The floral nuances with their strong violet component, truffles, tobacco and dark chocolate covered plum and cherry tones were exactly what the doctor ordered. Medium/full bodied, with a beautiful, refined, silky mouth feel, this is drinking great today. This could improve a but, but there is no reason not to be popping corks on this wine, if you have some in your cellar."

JANCIS ROBINSON: "81% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc. Harvested from 22 September to 30 September. Yields 43 hl/ha. Fermented in stainless steel, fully temperature controlled and vatted for 24 days. 80% in new French oak barrels. pH 3.8.
Tasted blind. Looks even more than 11 years younger than the 1990. Vigorous deep crimson. More evolved at the rim than the other 2001 tasted alongside (which turned out to be the wine in double magnum). Silky and lovely and fully formed on the nose. Just a little kick of tannins on the end. Very rich and even slightly gamey on the palate in terms of fruit. In the modern idiom but well done and vigorous."

WEINWISSER: "Aufhellendes Granat-Rubin. Von der Nase her momentan in einer schwierigen Phase, getrocknete Pflaumen, Demi-Glace, keine Primärfrucht zeigend. Saftiger, feiner Gaumen, nun mehr Frucht aufweisend, rotes Cassis, Johannisbeeren, mittlere Länge. Hat Mühe, die mögliche Grösse zu zeigen, ald einmal in einer ersten Genussreife."

WINE SPECTATOR: "Beautiful wine with blackberry, chocolate and floral aromas. Medium- to full-bodied, with silky tannins and a pretty finish. Refined and silky. Not a big Conseillante, but all in finesse and texture. I like it as much as the 2000. Best after 2006. 4,165 cases made."
