Chateau Rocheyron 2011

DECANTER: "The second vintage of this wine, a project run by Silvio Denz and Peter Sisseck, is from the initially maligned 2011 vintage - a vintage that's beginning to come out of its shell as time goes by. This wine is sourced from 8.45ha on a limestone plateau, and offers intense meaty and hedgerow fruit flavours balanced by good acidity. There's little in the way of sweetness here - instead, rich oaky notes of coffee and tar stain the palate, providing a smooth, well-integrated but powerful impression. Drinking well now."

JAMES SUCKLING: "A silky wine with shaved-bitter-chocolate and raspberry character. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a clean finish. First time I´ve tasted this and I am impressed. A joint venture between Silvio Denz of Faugères and rock-star winemaker in Spain Peter Sisseck. Better in 2016."

JANCIS ROBINSON: "Rich, succulent, powerful but not overdone with a lovely tannic bite and refreshing, crisp acid. Expertly balanced. Juicy, classic, savoury."

WINE SPECTATOR: „This has muscular layers of fig, boysenberry compote, blackberry confiture and tobacco notes coursing underneath. The tannins are refined, with a lingering elegance to offset the heft. This should age well. Best from 2015 through 2025. 8,330 cases made. –JM“
