THE WINE ADVOCATE: 92 THE WINEADVOCATE:"From the famous château estate of the Castéja family, the 2012 Batailley is a very strong effort. This is a big-time sleeper of the vintage. A dense purple wine with loads of crème de cassis, blueberry notes, background forest floor and cedar, this is a strong effort from Batailley and may well usher in a new era for this fifth-growth chateau that is capable of producing great wine. WEINWISSER: 17 RENÈ GABRIEL´S BX TOTAL: "Ich dégustierte ihn zwei Mal. Einmal auf der Union des Grands Crus (aufgerundete 17/20) und einmal auf dem Weingut (lockere 17/20). Dunkles Granat, recht satt in der Mitte, rubiner Rand. Süsses, rotpflaumiges Bouquet, dahinter Brombeerengelée und helle Schokonoten, wirkt schön gebunden. Im Gaumen mittelgewichtig, zeigt Charme und reife Tannine. Eine milde Variante für frühen, recht grossen Genuss."

JANCIS ROBINSON: "Tasted blind. Toasty oak on the nose. Sweet and polished. Not the most distinguished wine but it follows the formula and would disappoint no one. Hint of Ovaltine. Flattering. Not that dense. Tannins reasonably well hidden."

THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: 91 THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER: "The blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot produced a wine with cassis, black cherry, earth and a hint of oak on the nose, soft tannins and classic, Cabernet Sauvignon finish. This is showing much better in bottle than it did in barrel, which is always a good sign."
