Abreu - Assortment 2009
Das Assortment besteht aus je einer Flasche Madrona, Howell Mountain, Thorevilos und Cappella.
Cabernet Sauvignon Madrona Ranch
97 PARKER THE WINE ADVOCATE: "Initially reviewed in December, 2010, the 2009 Madrona Ranch has turned out to be spectacular. Lots of mulberry, blackberry, cassis, roasted coffee, chocolate and toast aromas are all present in the extremely perfumed bouquet. Showing more evolution and charm than other 2009s which seem to be closing down, this example is exceptionally concentrated and full-bodied with an endless finish. The tannins are ripe, and I suspect the alcohol is in the 14%-15% range, but no higher. This dense purple-colored, still youthful, approachable 2009 can be drunk now and over the next 15-20 years"
98+ ANTONIO GALLONI: "The 2009 Proprietary Red Madrona Ranch opens with beguiling notes of smoke, tar, incense and graphite. Layers of fruit blossom in the glass as this fleshy seductive wine continues to open up. Rich and multi-dimensional, the 2009 impresses for the way it covers every inch of the palate. This is a drop-dead gorgeous wine from David Abreu and Brad Grimes. The 2009 is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot."

Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain
98 PARKER THE WINE ADVOCATE: "The 2009 Howell Mountain offers up scents of graphite, mulberries, blueberries, vanillin, chocolate and forest floor. The wine’s full-bodied mouthfeel, moderately high tannins, and spicy, structured personality result in a masculine-styled 2009 that requires 4-5 years of cellaring. It should last for three decades."
98+ ANTONIO GALLONI: "The 2009 Proprietary Red Howell Mountain wraps around the palate with masses of blue and black fruit, smoke, tar, incense and licorice. A dense, resonant wine, the 2009 stands out for its extraordinarily vivid fruit and equally compelling personality. This is pure Howell Mountain at its very best. With time in the glass the 2009 opens up beautifully. There is more than enough fruit to fill out the wine´s huge, broad-shouldered frame. The 2009 Howell Mountain is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 12% Petit Verdot and 8% Merlot."

Cabernet Sauvignon Thorevilos
98 PARKER THE WINE ADVOCATE: "The 2009 Thorevilos displays a stunningly blue/purple color along with an exceptional nose of blueberry and blackberry liqueur intermixed with espresso, white chocolate and violets. With unbelievable intensity, a great, full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning purity, a subtle hint of wood, but no hard edges, this is one 2009 that does not have that broodingly tannic structure that is common in this vintage. This sensational effort can be drunk early on or cellared for another three decades."
97+ ANTONIO GALLLONI: "The 2009 Proprietary Red Thorevilos is big, big, big. The deepest and most inward of Abreu´s 2009s, the Thorevilos shows none of the sexiness and early appeal of the Cappella or Madrona Ranch. Compact masses of dark, incredibly primary fruit remain virtually impenetrable. Occasionally a hint of tar, mocha, graphite and pencil shavings make a brief appearance, but for most of the time the 2009 remains incredibly tight. Readers will have to be exceptionally patient with the 2009. The blend is 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot."

Capella Proprietary Red
96 PARKER THE WINE ADVOCATE: "The 2009 Cappella, which is nearly three-fourths Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and a tiny quantity of Merlot, possesses an inky/purple color and sweet notes of incense, violets, espresso beans, white chocolate and lots of creme de cassis and blackberries. There is plenty of glycerin, but unlike a lot of 2009s, despite relatively elevated tannins, the wine is open, showy and exuberant, which I consider to be a positive. Production was tiny, with only 250 cases produced. The 2009 should continue to drink well for 20-25 years."
97 ANTONIO GALLONI: "Mocha, espresso, plums and raspberries float from the glass as the 2009 Proprietary Red Cappella conquers the palate and intellect. A sexy, radiant wine, the 2009 Cappella is bright, focused and exceptionally polished. Floral notes intermingled with hints of sweet tobacco, sage and mocha appear on the finish, adding considerable lift and finesse. Ideally the 2009 needs time in bottle, but it is incredibly appealing even today. I wouldn´t suggest opening the Abreu 2009s anytime soon, but if I were going to open one, it would be the Cappella. In 2009, the Cappella is 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot and 3% Merlot."
